ICOBA-NA continues to be a strong pillar in the overall strategy of returning Igbobi college to its past glory. Our North American membership is concentrating on improving not just the infrastructural layout but also the soft skills of academic improvement.
Our annual AGM’s which are normally held last weekend in June continues to wax strong. It is a period where old memories are rekindled, and a great time is had by old boys some of whom never met in Igbobi College but as the school song says “All are one in the Lord”.
ICOBANA LUNCHES EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING PROGRAM AT IGBOBI COLLEGE
On August 8, 2021, Igbobi College held is annual Speech and Prize Giving Day. The event which was well attended by Students, Alumni, Clergy and Board of Trustees, was very entertaining, as well as gratifying for those who received prizes. The event also served to motivate non-recipients to do better.At this year’s event and for the first time, ICOBA North America (ICOBANA) lunched its much-heralded and anticipated "Excellence in Teaching '' Program. The goal of the program which was developed with the assistance of the former Principal Rev. Fashina and the current Principal Rev. Akanbi is to improve educational excellence of students.
The program awards monetary rewards to teachers whose students have shown exceptional results based on exit exam results. The program also offers support to the recruitment of part-time teachers to help students during after school prep hours. Monetary awards between N50,000 and N100,000 totaling about N1,000,000 was awarded this pilot year.
Commenting on the program, Former ICOBANA Chairman, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, commented that emphasis on the awards is placed on math and English, that both subjects will have the highest possible financial awards. Other subjects include, Biology, Civics and Government
The objectives of the Association is to formulate, adopt and promote measures and principles that:
A) Facilitate social interaction among Old Igbobians as well as ensure the continued reflection in their lives of the religion, moral and other noble ideals for which the College stands.
B) Keep alive the affection which every old Igbobian has in the affairs of the College by keeping him well informed of the general progress of the College and encouraging him to contribute morally and financially towards such progress.
C) Encourage the management, staff and students of the College to maintain the ideals of the College and to offer their services in the overall interest of the College.
D) Achieve other objectives as the Association may from time to time determine.
Membership of the Association is open to all old boys of the College who spent at least one year attending classes in the College.
